Below is a brief discription of what happens at a library session and a copy of our T&C's
Library sessions are drop in sessions and we try and keep them as relaxed as possible, however at busy times we may have to limit you to a 15min consultation. Our meets at Uxbridge Community Centre need to finish at 2.30pm promptly and therefore we are unable to see anyone who arrives after 2.15pm.
When you arrive at a session one of the volunteers will greet you and have a chat with you about yourself/ your child, what you want to do whilst carrying and any health problems or niggles. Don't worry if you've never even seen a sling before, we'll be able to help. Equally if you have a sling you're thinking of using bring it along and we can help you.
Once we have an idea on what may suit you based on your preferences we will show you a few options and you will have the chance to try out the slings using a demo doll and/or your own child. If you find something that suits you have the option to hire it for either 2 or 4 weeks.
We give our advice and trials at the session freely (although donations are always gratefully received and are put towards new slings). Hires incur a small fee and a refundable deposit the amount of which depends on the specific sling.
If you are planning to hire a sling from us please ensure you bring one form of photographic ID (driving licence, passport, work ID etc.) and one proof of address issued in the past 3 months (Bill, government letter, council tax letter etc,) We are unable to hire to you without these.
Hire fees and deposits can be paid via cash, paypal or instant bank transfer.

Hillingdon Sling Library Terms of Hire
A Terms of Hire Form must be completed for each carrier you borrow with your full name, address and contact details, loan charges, deposit values, return method and due date. A printed copy of the details of your hire will also be completed for you to keep.
Your personal details will be kept in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998, and will only be used to contact you in relation to your loan.
All carriers are lent subject to availability, condition and suitability.
Once a carrier is returned another loan may be made.
There are two options for length of hire; 2 weeks (£7) or 1 month (£15). If you wish to hire for a longer period of time, please contact us to arrange this. Depending on demand for particular carriers this may not always be possible.
A fully refundable deposit is required for each hire. The deposit amount is dependent on the value of the carrier; 'Tier 1' carriers require a £30 deposit, 'Tier 2' carriers require a £20 deposit, Stretchy Hire requires a £10 deposit.
The replacement of any lost carriers, accessories or instructions will be paid for out of your deposit. If the deposit does not cover the cost of repair or replacement charges will be sought to cover these.
At our discretion, deposits may be reduced or waived for regular, reliable library users. This will be decided on a case by case basis.
Hire costs are payable by cash, card or PayPal payment. Deposits may be given as cash or PayPal payment (or bank transfer if made in advance), and are refunded in the manner that they are received.
It is the borrower’s responsibility to check over the carrier before every use. Check all buckles, hems and seams ensuring that there are no tears, breaks, cracks or holes. If any damage is discovered, please stop using the carrier immediately and contact us.
Hillingdon Sling Library cannot be held responsible for any accident that results in injury or death whilst the carrier is in your care.
All carriers are provided with instructions for safe use. If, for any reason they are not supplied, it is the borrower’s responsibility to ask for a copy of the instructions.
The borrower must read all safety, use and care instructions provided prior to using the carrier. Carriers must only be used in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.
Under no circumstances is smoking permitted whilst using the carrier. Please inform us if you are a smoker, or if there is a smoker in your home as we will need to carefully launder the carrier after it is returned, which may incur an additional fee.
Please avoid washing the carrier, though do spot clean any marks as they occur. If you feel it is necessary to clean the carrier whilst it is on loan to you, please contact us for directions or assistance as some slings have special care instructions.
We cannot guarantee that there are no animal hairs on our carriers, but we ask that all carriers are kept away from pets to mimimise this possibility. If you are very allergic to animal hairs, please request that the carrier be laundered before you borrow it to help reduce any potential reaction.
Some everyday marks are expected when carrying children, but please keep the sling away from anything that may stain or damage it more permanently. The cost of damage beyond normal wear and tear may be removed from your deposit.
All slings, carriers, instructions and accessories remain the property of Kerrie-Louise Goodman, Heather Werrell and/or the Hillingdon Sling Library at all times, and all loans are subject to availability and our discretion.
